Marié have written the book, Machine Patchwork in 1990, but she has completed a hand-sewn quilt every year since 1984. She has developed her “Piece then cut Method” to save some time and make her hand piecing more effective. She applies the layer and cut method for her kaleidoscope work by hand and have developed special rulers for several hand piecing techniques.
She believes methods and techniques are the foundation needed to develop the skills necessary to tackle any piecing project. She makes up to 5 hand pieced quilts per year as well as some machine pieced quilts. She quilts on a longarm and get some help from professional longarm quilters to assist in finishing her quilts.
Her time is divided between the farm and her grandchildren, in Riebeek West and quilt at the sea in Melkbosstrand.
